Thailand / Island Yoga

The Yoga Retreat is a low-key yogi haven on the island of Koh Phangan in Thailand.

We came to the retreat for 30-days of Ashtanga,  beginning with a three-day detox. The course included daily lectures with Kes on the philosophy and  8 limbs of yoga, and meditation and pranayama workshops with Teresa. We practised Mysore Ashtanga six days a week, a self-led practice with adjustments.

JNB_1860JNB_1862JNB_1875JNB_1855JNB_1099Each day after class, we’d get together at the communal table – everyone from different parts of the world; Poland, Peru, Germany, England, South Africa, Canada and Australia – eat fresh coconuts, paw paw and banana pancakes with pineapple and honey.

The Raw Cafe served delicious breakfast bowls and smoothies (the Paradise Shake was my go-to – coconut milk, banana, pineapple and yoghurt).
